Methamphetamine Ring Busted in Schuyler County

A Schuyler County man has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy that dated back to 2009. Chad Speicher, 29, of Beaver Dams, was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.

According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles E. Moynihan, Speicher conspired with co-conspirators Shawn Rickard and John Barton to manufacture methamphetamine in Millport, N.Y. The investigation, led by the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, uncovered an active methamphetamine laboratory on Barton’s property, where law enforcement officers discovered methamphetamine, powder substances, and pseudoephedrine. Multiple firearms, including a handgun, were also recovered, along with over $8,000 in U.S. Currency and marijuana.

Speicher was sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in the conspiracy. Co-conspirators John Barton and Shawn Rickard were previously sentenced to 180 months and eight years in prison, respectively. The sentencing marks the culmination of an investigation involving the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New York State Police, the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, and the Watkins Glen Police Department.

The investigation, which began in 2009, was led by the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office under the direction of District Attorney Joseph Fazzary. Special Agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Brian R. Crowell, also contributed to the investigation.

Speicher’s sentencing brings an end to a long and complex investigation into the methamphetamine conspiracy. The case serves as a reminder of the dangers of methamphetamine and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat the drug trade.
