Elmira Man Sentenced to Prison for Methamphetamine and Gun Crimes
ROCHESTER, N.Y.– Shawn Rickard, a 39-year-old man from Elmira, N.Y., has been sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine trafficking operation.
According to authorities, Rickard was convicted of conspiracy to manufacture 500 grams or more of methamphetamine and possession of firearms in the furtherance of drug trafficking activities. His sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge Charles J. Siragusa.
The investigation into Rickard’s operation revealed that he conspired with co-defendants Chad Speicher and John Barton to manufacture large quantities of methamphetamine in Millport, Schuyler County, N.Y., between 2009 and May 2011.
On May 18, 2011, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Barton’s residence and discovered an active methamphetamine laboratory, multiple firearms, and over $8,000 in U.S. Currency. The operation also uncovered marijuana and methamphetamine.
Rickard’s sentencing is the culmination of a lengthy investigation led by the Schuyler County District Attorney’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team.
Co-defendants Chad Speicher and John Barton have also been convicted of similar charges and are set to be sentenced on September 24 and 25, 2013, respectively.
U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. praised the investigative efforts of the agencies involved, stating that their work has made a significant impact in combating methamphetamine trafficking in the region.
