Belgrade Felon Sentenced for 5-Year Gun Stash
MISSOULA — In a brazen display of disregard for the law, a Belgrade felon has been sentenced to two years in prison for illegally possessing a firearm for five years while on state probation.
Mark John Littlefield, 49, a convicted felon with a history of reckless behavior, pleaded guilty in January to prohibited person in possession of a firearm. U.S. District Judge Dana L. Christensen presided over the case.
The government alleged that Littlefield was convicted in December 2011 of felony driving under the influence in Gallatin County District Court. As part of his sentence, he was explicitly prohibited from owning or possessing firearms. In 2020, he was informed of this prohibition and signed a form affirming his understanding.
Despite this knowledge, Littlefield went on to illegally possess a .357 pistol from 2018 until June 2023, when probation officers discovered the firearm in his bedroom. When confronted with the evidence, Littlefield boldly stated, “I’m going federal, I’m going federal.”
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Montana Probation and Parole, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Justice.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based initiatives and strategic enforcement.
Mark John Littlefield’s reckless behavior and blatant disregard for the law have earned him a well-deserved two-year prison sentence. The people of Montana can rest a little easier knowing that justice has been served in this case.
