TRAVIS JEROME ROBINSON, Martinsburg Man, Found Guilty of Firearms Charge
A 34-year-old Martinsburg man has been sentenced to five years in prison for possessing a firearm during a drug crime, according to authorities.
Travis Jerome Robinson was found guilty of “Possessing a Firearm During and in Relation to a Drug Trafficking Crime” in March 2018, after admitting to having a .40-caliber handgun while possessing and intending to distribute heroin in May 2017 in Jefferson County, West Virginia.
The case was brought as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making neighborhoods safer. The program has been successful in bringing together law enforcement agencies to combat rising violent crime in America.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has made addressing violent crime a top priority, announcing the reinvigoration of PSN in October 2017 and directing U.S. Attorney’s Offices to develop a district crime reduction strategy.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office leading the investigation.
Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case.
Robinson’s conviction and sentencing are a result of the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and violent crime in the community.
