Court documents reveal Lucas-Gomez was discovered unlawfully present in the country around February 28, 2025. This wasn’t his first brush with the US justice system. Back in January 2009, he was convicted in Florida of aggravated battery against a pregnant woman – a brutal act that landed him a state jail sentence. Following his release, he was removed from the United States in July 2010. His return triggered an enhanced federal penalty due to the severity of his prior offense.
The feds didn’t waste time. Lucas-Gomez was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 4, 2025, and swiftly pleaded guilty just weeks later, on March 31, 2025. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations in New Orleans, Louisiana, and Brian Acuna, Acting Field Office Director of ICE/ERO in New Orleans. The coordinated effort underscores the interagency cooperation aimed at securing the border and enforcing immigration laws.
Assistant U.S. Attorney C. Brett Grantham led the prosecution, building a solid case that resulted in the conviction and subsequent sentencing. The investigation was spearheaded by Homeland Security Investigations as part of “Operation Take Back America,” a nationwide initiative designed to combat illegal immigration, dismantle cartels, and eliminate transnational criminal organizations. The program leverages resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhoods.
