Mauricio Gonzalez, Child Pornography and Sex Trafficking, Florida 2021

Palm Beach Man Convicted of Receiving Child Pornography and Transporting Minor for Sex

Miami, Florida – In a shocking verdict, a Palm Beach County man has been found guilty of receiving child pornography and transporting a minor with the intention of engaging in criminal sexual activity.

According to court documents, 39-year-old Mauricio Gonzalez had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old Bahamian girl who was being sex trafficked. The victim was in the United States in 2020 and during that time, Gonzalez had sex with the girl on several occasions. The two then began an unlawful sexual and "romantic" relationship, which continued after the victim left the United States.

The evidence presented in court showed that Gonzalez requested sexual images from the victim, asked her to participate in live sexual video streams, and otherwise primed their relationship to convince the girl to produce sexualized digital content. Ultimately, the victim recorded a sexually explicit video of herself and sent it to Gonzalez through a messenger application. Gonzalez then flew the victim from the Bahamas to the United States for sex.

U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks will sentence Gonzalez on October 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., at the West Palm Beach federal courthouse. Gonzalez faces a maximum of life imprisonment, with a 10-year minimum mandatory for transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity and a 5-year minimum mandatory for receipt of child pornography.

The case was investigated by the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Miami Field Office and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. It was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.

Gonzalez’s conviction is a significant blow to child predators and a testament to the bravery of the victim who came forward to expose the truth. The community can rest assured that law enforcement agencies will continue to work tirelessly to protect our children and bring perpetrators to justice.

The case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of sex trafficking and child exploitation. It is a call to action for parents, caregivers, and educators to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.

Gonzalez’s sentencing is a crucial step towards justice for the victim and a warning to those who would seek to harm our children. We urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
