Bernard Richard Poulin Sentenced to 30 Years for Murder in Indian Country

A Beggs, Oklahoma resident has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for a brutal murder in Indian Country. Bernard Richard Poulin, age 31, was ordered to serve 30 years behind bars for his role in the fatal stabbing of a victim during a physical altercation on May 10, 2021.

The tragic event occurred at the victim’s residence within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation in the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Poulin’s arrest and subsequent conviction mark the culmination of a joint investigation by the Beggs Police Department, the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Lighthorse Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

On August 23, 2022, Poulin pleaded guilty to Murder in Indian Country – Second Degree, along with Arson. While incarcerated in the Okmulgee County Jail after his arrest, Poulin started a fire outside his cell area.

The Honorable Ronald A. White, Chief Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearing in Muskogee. Poulin will remain in custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve a non-paroleable sentence of incarceration.

The sentencing brings closure to a painful chapter in the lives of the victim’s loved ones and serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of violence in our communities. Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Satter represented the United States in the case.
