Guillermo Antonio Bethancourth, Possession of Pornography Involving Juveniles, Louisiana 2022

Guillermo Antonio Bethancourth, a 42-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested by the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office for internet crimes against children. Bethancourth, who was residing in Baton Rouge, was taken into custody by General Landry’s Cyber Crime Unit.

The arrest was the result of a joint investigation with the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crime Unit, the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation Fugitive Apprehension Unit, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Louisiana State Police. Bethancourth was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and a detainer was placed on him by Homeland Security Investigations.

Bethancourth was charged with 117 counts of possession of pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13 years old, 50 counts of production of pornography involving juveniles under the age of 13 years old, and 50 counts of video voyeurism. The charges are a stark reminder of the dangers of internet crimes against children and the importance of protecting our nation’s most vulnerable citizens.

According to General Landry, his office is committed to doing all it can to protect Louisiana’s children from predators like Bethancourth. "My office and I are committed to doing all we legally can to protect Louisiana’s children," said General Landry. "This includes arresting a number of illegal immigrants who have inflicted damage on our State’s citizens."

General Landry cited this arrest and the numerous others made by his office as proof that illegal immigration impacts more than just "border states." He once again called on Congress to back President Donald Trump’s efforts for comprehensive immigration reform. "Too many Louisiana families have been victimized by criminals who should never have been in our country," concluded General Landry. "Congress must join the President and secure our Southern border in name only."

The arrest of Bethancourth is a major victory for the people of Louisiana and a testament to the hard work of General Landry’s office. As General Landry noted, "Internet crimes against children inflict continuous and life-long damage. Every time a video or image is viewed, a child is re-victimized." The people of Louisiana can rest a little easier knowing that predators like Bethancourth are being brought to justice.

In recent months, General Landry’s office has been at the forefront of the fight against internet crimes against children. With arrests like that of Bethancourth, it is clear that General Landry is committed to protecting the children of Louisiana from those who would seek to harm them. As the people of Louisiana look to the future, they can be confident that General Landry will continue to fight for their safety and well-being.
