A Miami bank employee has been found guilty of embezzling over $190,000 from a deceased customer’s accounts.
Billy Gedeon, 34, used his position as an employee at an international financial institution to embezzle the funds, which he then deposited into his personal account at another bank.
The embezzlement occurred in 2023, when Gedeon forged the deceased customer’s signature on a bank form to close the account and withdraw all the money.
Gedeon pleaded guilty to the crime in the Southern District of Florida and faces a maximum penalty of up to 30 years in prison.
Sentencing is set for June 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM Eastern Time.
The U.S. Secret Service and the Office of Inspector General for the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau investigated the case, which was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Latoya C. Brown and Trial Attorneys D. Zachary Adams and Chelsea R. Rooney.
