James Johnson, Firearm Possession, Mississippi 2022

A former member of the notorious Simon City Royals has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for possessing a firearm. John Wayne Clark, 32, of Biloxi, Mississippi, was handed the sentence by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, announced U. S. Attorney Mike Hurst.

The firearm was forfeited to the government. On May 7, 2015, DEA agents received information that Clark would be driving from Biloxi to Gulfport with a large amount of methamphetamine. In a search of his vehicle following a traffic stop, law enforcement found $652 in cash on the console, a .357 revolver in the engine compartment and a large quantity of methamphetamine behind the radio bezel in the dash.

Clark was out on bond on two state felony drug charges at the time. Judge Ozerden ordered his federal sentence to run consecutive to his state sentence. The investigation into Clark’s activities was a result of a violent crime initiative led by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Annette Williams. A large quantity of methamphetamine found in Clark’s vehicle is a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle with narcotics in the state of Mississippi.

The conviction of Clark sends a clear message that those who possess firearms after a prior conviction will face severe consequences. It’s a significant victory for law enforcement and a reminder that their efforts are making a difference in the fight against crime.

John Wayne Clark’s 10-year prison sentence is a testament to the tireless work of law enforcement and prosecutors in the state of Mississippi. The public can be assured that those who engage in violent and illicit activities will be held accountable for their actions.

The U. S. Attorney’s Office, along with its law enforcement partners, will continue to work tirelessly to keep the streets of Mississippi safe and free from the scourge of narcotics and violent crime.
