Garron Gonzalez, Attempting to Sexually Exploit a Minor, North Dakota 2010

A Bismarck man will spend 25 years behind bars after being convicted of attempting to sexually exploit a minor.

Garron Gonzalez, 38, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Daniel L. Hovland to serve 25 years in prison for the crime, which he attempted in 2010. He was also ordered to serve 20 years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victims Fund.

The sentence will run consecutively with Gonzalez’s current state sentence, which is set to expire in 2015.

According to court documents, Gonzalez was being investigated for a probation violation when Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) and the Yankton Police Department discovered he had been in contact with several juvenile females through social media and text messaging.

Agents seized two cellular telephones from Gonzalez, which revealed a disturbing pattern of behavior. The phones contained nude images of a 15-year-old female victim, as well as sexually explicit messages.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gary Delorme.

The sentencing comes as a relief to many in the community, who are grateful that Gonzalez will be held accountable for his actions.

Gonzalez’s conviction serves as a reminder that child predators will be caught and brought to justice.
