Bobby Evans, 29, has been charged with distributing heroin in Charleston, West Virginia. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Evans sold heroin to a confidential informant for $60 at Tudors Biscuit World on Washington Street East on May 28, 2014. This is not Evans’ first offense, as he previously sold cocaine base (crack) to the same informant on May 27, 2014, in front of his residence on Washington Street East.
On May 29, 2014, officers executed a search warrant at the house where Evans was staying and found $40 of the money used by the informant to buy the heroin, additional heroin, and a gun. Evans faces up to 20 years in prison when he is sentenced on November 13, 2014, by United States District Court Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr.
The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Drug Enforcement Network Team. Assistant United States Attorney Monica D. Coleman is in charge of the prosecution. The case is being prosecuted as part of an ongoing effort led by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of West Virginia to combat the illicit sale and misuse of prescription drugs and heroin.
The United States Attorney’s Office, joined by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, is committed to aggressively pursuing and shutting down illegal pill trafficking, eliminating open air drug markets, and curtailing the spread of opiate painkillers and heroin.
Evans’ actions have put the community at risk, and it’s essential that he is held accountable for his crimes. The sentence he faces is a reminder that our office is committed to making our neighborhoods safer and reducing the flow of illicit substances into our communities.
Evans was charged with violating federal laws related to the distribution of heroin. The U.S. Attorney’s Office will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that those who engage in this type of activity are brought to justice.
This case is a prime example of the ongoing efforts to combat the heroin epidemic in our region. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute those responsible for distributing heroin and other illicit substances.
