Heroin Distribution Sentence in Martinsburg
A 34-year-old Martinsburg man has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for distributing heroin in the Eastern Panhandle. David Cullen, a machine operator and resident of Martinsburg, was also ordered to pay a special assessment fee of $100 and serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The sentencing occurred on Monday in the Federal Building, located at 1125 Chapline Street, Suite 3000 in Wheeling, West Virginia. U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case.
According to U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, Cullen was originally part of an investigation led by the Eastern Panhandle Drug & Violent Crime Task Force. He had agreed to make a series of controlled purchases on behalf of the Task Force, but instead used the opportunity to buy heroin for personal use and provided officers with a counterfeit substance.
Cullen pled guilty to distribution of a controlled substance on June 3, 2014. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Paul T. Camilletti.
“We continue to support the efforts of the Drug & Violent Crime Task Force to aggressively investigate heroin sales in the Eastern Panhandle,” said U.S. Attorney Ihlenfeld. “We are confident that law enforcement officials and residents can work collaboratively to minimize drug use and promote safety in our region.”
