Wheeling Man Admits to Methamphetamine Distribution Charge
WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A Wheeling resident has admitted to a serious drug charge, announced Acting U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard.
Scott Everly, also known as ‘Capt,’ 70, pled guilty today to one count of ‘Distribution of Methamphetamine within 1000 Feet of a Protected Location.’ The crime occurred in July 2019, when Everly sold methamphetamine near Riverview Towers in Wheeling.
Everly faces a significant prison sentence, as he could be incarcerated for at least one year and up to 40 years. He also faces a fine of up to $2,000,000. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant.
The investigation into Everly’s activities was led by the Ohio Valley Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shawn M. Adkins is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James P. Mazzone presided over the proceedings. Everly’s guilty plea marks a significant development in the ongoing fight against methamphetamine distribution in the region.
