A Waterloo woman is headed to prison after being caught with a firearm while she was under the influence of marijuana.
Lakeena Marie Pendleton, 36, from Waterloo, Iowa, received a three-month prison term after pleading guilty to possession of a firearm by a drug user on March 6, 2023.
Pendleton purchased a firearm in July 2021 and again in March 2022, but on both occasions, she lied to the dealer by saying she was not an unlawful user of marijuana, despite knowing she was.
On May 2022, Pendleton was pulled over while driving and police found a firearm, alcohol, and a small amount of marijuana on her person.
The case was prosecuted by Special Assistant United States Attorney Nicole L. Nagin, and it was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and the Waterloo Police Department.
Pendleton is currently out on bond and will self-surrender on October 17, 2023. She must also serve a two-year term of supervised release after her prison term.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities.
Pendleton, a resident of Waterloo, Iowa, was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand.
