Clarksburg, WV – In a shocking case of impersonation and deception, a man dressed as a United States officer was caught attempting to swindle local merchants. The imposter, who wore a uniform and claimed to be an officer of the law, made his move in early July 1915. According to eyewitnesses, the man would enter various shops, flashing his fake badge and demanding that the owners hand over cash and valuables under the guise of ‘fines’ and ‘fees.’
