Bomb Making Lands Williamsville Man in Prison
A 25-year-old man from Williamsville, New York, has been sentenced to prison for his role in bomb making. Duncan Badding, 25, received a one-year prison sentence, followed by a 2-year period of supervised release, for unlawfully making and unlawfully possessing destructive devices.
The investigation into Badding’s activities began on August 8, 2012, when police received a complaint about shots being fired in his backyard. The Amherst Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Enforcement Officers searched Badding’s residence at 66 Williamsburg Square and discovered a cache of explosive materials, including Triacetone Triperoxide (TAPT), ANFO, Tannerite, and Goex Black Powder.
Officers also found three PVC pipes and five cans of commercial Goex Black Powder. The search uncovered several apparent destructive devices, or combination of parts and devices designed or intended to be used or converted into destructive devices.
The sentencing is the culmination of an investigation by officers from the Amherst Police Department, under the direction of Chief John Askey, and Special Agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, under the direction of Resident Agent in Charge Frank Christiano.
Badding’s case is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by individuals who create and possess explosive devices. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives will continue to work tirelessly to identify and disrupt these threats.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel L. Violanti handled the case and praised the work of the Amherst Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for their diligent efforts in bringing Badding to justice.
The sentencing of Duncan Badding serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities: the consequences of bomb making and possession of destructive devices are severe and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
