A chilling wave of false bomb threats shook the Alton community when Jeremy R. Colwell, a 33-year-old East Alton man, allegedly made multiple threats against the Home Depot store in Alton, Illinois.

According to a complaint filed on April 26, 2016, Colwell is charged with three counts of Conveying a False Threat, a serious offense that carries a potential sentence of up to 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, not more than 3 years of supervised release after his prison term, and a mandatory special assessment of $100 per count.

Colwell is accused of faxing threatening messages to the Alton Police Department, local news outlets, Home Depot, and the FBI on February 16, 2016, April 2, 2016, and April 4, 2016, claiming that a bomb would detonate at the Home Depot store in Alton.
