Boone Indicted on Firearm Charge

A grand jury has indicted Matthew E. Boone, 32, of Clarksburg, West Virginia, on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm, according to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen.

Boone, who has a history of convictions, including heroin distribution in United States District Court and five felonies in Harrison County Circuit Court, is accused of possessing a 9mm pistol in January 2017 in Harrison County.

The indictment alleges that Boone, having previously been convicted of these crimes, knowingly possessed the firearm, which is a violation of federal law. The crime is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Traci M. Cook is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Clarksburg Police Department investigated the case.

Boone’s indictment is the result of a thorough investigation by federal and local authorities. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat firearms offenses and protect the community.

An indictment is merely an accusation, and a defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Boone will have the opportunity to respond to the charges in court.

The case against Boone is a reminder that those who have previously been convicted of crimes and are found to be in possession of firearms will be held accountable. The government will continue to work to prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands and to keep the community safe.
