BOISE, ID – Timothy Bojorquez, Jr., 29, of Plainview, Idaho, has admitted to illegally possessing firearms despite a prior domestic violence conviction, federal prosecutors announced today. Bojorquez pleaded guilty to the charge, bringing him one step closer to facing significant prison time.
According to court documents, Bojorquez illegally held onto five firearms – two high-powered rifles and three pistols – between December 9, 2016, and February 9, 2017. This wasn’t a case of simple oversight. Bojorquez was already legally barred from owning guns due to a January 17, 2007, conviction in San Joaquin County, California, where he was found guilty of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant/parent of a child. That conviction qualified as a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence under federal law, automatically disqualifying him from firearm ownership.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) began tracking Bojorquez in November 2016. Agents discovered he was actively attempting to sell firearms, communicating with potential buyers through his Instagram and Facebook accounts. This digital trail ultimately led to a February 9, 2017, raid on Bojorquez’s Plainview residence, where agents seized the illegal cache of weapons.
This wasn’t a spontaneous act; it was a calculated risk by a man who knew he was breaking the law. The feds weren’t fooled by his online activity, and the search warrant uncovered the hard evidence they needed. Bojorquez’s attempt to profit from illegal gun sales has landed him in serious trouble.
The charge of illegal possession of a firearm after a misdemeanor conviction for domestic violence carries a hefty penalty. Bojorquez now faces up to ten years in federal prison, a maximum fine of $250,000, and up to three years of supervised release. Expect a full sentencing hearing before Chief U.S. District Judge B. Lynn Winmill on August 7, 2017, at the Boise federal courthouse.
The case was spearheaded by the Boise ATF office and is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing gun violence. The Department of Justice launched the program in 2001, pooling federal, state, and local resources to target individuals involved in gun crimes.
