Boston Man Sentenced to 3+ Years for Ammunition Possession as Felon

A Boston man, Tyreek Hall, 21, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for illegally possessing ammunition as a convicted felon.

Hall was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Indira Talwani, who also ordered him to serve three years of supervised release. The sentencing comes after Hall pleaded guilty in September 2023 to one count of being a felon in possession of ammunition.

The charges against Hall stem from an incident in June 2022, when he posted a photo on social media with a gun. At the time, Hall had been on parole for just one week, having been released early for a state conviction of assault with a dangerous weapon – a firearm. Hall is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.

On June 9, 2022, Hall was found in possession of a 9x19mm caliber privately made Glock-style semi-automatic pistol, commonly known as a “ghost gun,” and eight rounds of ammunition. The discovery led to Hall’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.

Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy, James Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Boston Field Division, Brian Kyes, U.S. Marshal for the District of Massachusetts, and Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox made the announcement today.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Dawley and Fred Wyshak, III of the Organized Crime & Gang Unit prosecuted the case, which is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN). PSN is a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, and making neighborhoods safer for everyone.

Project Safe Neighborhoods is a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The program is based on four core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence, setting focused enforcement priorities, and measuring results.
