PITTSBURGH – In a stunning turn of events, Wallace Banks, 34, from Braddock, Pennsylvania, has been formally charged by a federal grand jury with the daring double hit on Pittsburgh banks. United States Attorney David J. Hickton made the announcement today.
The feds have laid out two counts against Banks, who is accused of robbing WesBanco Bank at 807 Middle Street on August 15, 2016, followed by a brazen heist at Huntington Bank located at 650 Smithfield Street the next day. Both financial institutions are protected by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC).
Should Banks be convicted of these charges, he could face a daunting sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, or both. The severity of his sentence will depend on the gravity of the crimes and any prior criminal history.
The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Rachael L. Dizard. The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Police Department.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely an accusation, and Banks is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against financial crime within our community. Stay tuned for further developments as this story unfolds.
