ERIE, Pa. – The gritty streets of Bradford were hit with a blast as John Louis Vanyo Jr., 28, found himself in the crosshairs of justice for violating federal explosives laws. Today, United States Attorney David J. Hickton announced that Vanyo has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Erie.
The two-count indictment against Vanyo details his possession and improper storage of stolen explosive materials, a dangerous act that could have had devastating consequences if not for the swift intervention of law enforcement.
Under the harsh penalties of federal law, Vanyo is facing up to 11 years in prison, a fine of $350,000, or both. The actual sentence will be determined by the severity of his offenses and any prior criminal history.
Assistant United States Attorney Christine A. Sanner is handling the prosecution for the government, ensuring that justice is served with no compromise.
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Bradford Police Department, showcasing their commitment to keeping the streets safe from such dangerous elements.
As the case progresses, it’s important to remember that an indictment is merely an accusation. Vanyo is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
