BOUTTE, LA – Brandon D. Hill, 30, of Boutte, Louisiana, is facing serious federal charges after being indicted August 4th on gun and narcotics violations, according to a statement released Monday by U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans. The case, spearheaded by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), alleges Hill was illegally possessing both firearms and a dangerous cocktail of drugs.
The grand jury indictment details three counts against Hill. He’s accused of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, a charge that carries a potential 15-year prison sentence, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Adding to the severity, Hill allegedly possessed fentanyl, cocaine hydrochloride, and cocaine base with the intent to distribute, a charge that could land him up to 20 years behind bars, a $1,000,000 fine, and another three years of supervised release.
Federal prosecutors aren’t just going after Hill for the drugs and the prior felony. They’ve also charged him with possession of a firearm *in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime*. This carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years, to be served consecutively with any other sentence imposed, plus a fine of up to $250,000 and five years of supervised release. Each count also includes a $100 special assessment fee. The stakes are high, and the feds are looking to put Hill away for a long time.
This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a federal initiative designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering collaboration between law enforcement at all levels and the communities they serve. Launched in 2021, PSN focuses on building trust, supporting community organizations, prioritizing strategic enforcement, and tracking results. The program aims to not only react to crime but also to prevent it.
U.S. Attorney Evans was quick to emphasize that the indictment is merely an accusation, and Hill is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. The prosecution is being handled by Senior Litigation Counsel Matthew R. Payne. Beyond the ATF, the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office for the 29th Judicial District also played key roles in the investigation, demonstrating a coordinated effort to bring Hill to justice.
The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case as it unfolds. With a potential combined sentence stretching decades, the outcome will undoubtedly send a message about the federal government’s commitment to cracking down on both illegal firearms and the deadly fentanyl epidemic plaguing communities across the nation. The investigation remains ongoing, and further details may emerge as the case progresses through the court system.
