Brandon James, Methamphetamine Distribution, Indiana 2019

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – In a shocking display of the far-reaching consequences of methamphetamine trafficking, 35-year-old Brandon James of Indianapolis, Indiana, was sentenced to 284 months in prison for his role in a massive methamphetamine distribution ring.

According to documents in the case, James agreed with others to buy methamphetamine in California in May 2019, with the intention of bringing it back to the Midwest for distribution. The scheme involved James providing the cash to buy bulk methamphetamine at a low price, and then flying to California with several co-conspirators to obtain over 15 kilograms of the illicit substance.

As the methamphetamine was being driven across the country, the car was stopped in Missouri, and the methamphetamine was discovered. James’ actions were part of a larger conspiracy that involved several co-defendants, who have also received significant prison sentences.

Benjamin Hicks, one of James’ co-defendants, was sentenced to 292 months of imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release. Terrence Reid received 150 months of imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release, while Kelvin Franklin was sentenced to 108 months of imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release.

The investigation into James and his co-conspirators was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the DEA North Central Laboratory, the Mishawaka Police Department, the Indiana State Police, the former St. Joseph County Drug Investigation Unit, and the Missouri State Police.

Assistant United States Attorney Joel Gabrielse prosecuted the case, bringing James and his co-conspirators to justice for their roles in the methamphetamine distribution ring.

James’ sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of methamphetamine trafficking, and the importance of continued efforts to combat the scourge of this illicit substance.
