A large-scale methamphetamine trafficking operation spanning Northeast Ohio and Pennsylvania has been dismantled, with 15 individuals charged for their roles in the conspiracy. The operation, which obtained meth from suppliers in Akron and the US-Mexico border, distributed over 100 pounds of the drug to customers in the region. The charges are the result of a year-long investigation by federal and local officials, culminating in a series of coordinated arrests from April to May. The investigation revealed that four residences in Akron were used as stash houses to store, process, and distribute the methamphetamine.
Those charged include Clarence Daniels, Larry Finch, Nicholas Helfrick, and 12 others, all of whom face counts of conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Additional charges include possession with intent to distribute, maintaining drug premises, and use of a communication facility to facilitate a drug offense.
Investigators seized approximately 15 pounds of methamphetamine and a firearm during the operation. The defendants were apprehended through a combination of criminal complaints and a federal 21-count indictment returned in May. The case highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the methamphetamine epidemic in the region.
The defendants, ranging in age from 27 to 62, are from various locations in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including Akron, St. Petersburg, and Oil City. The investigation was led by federal and local officials, with assistance from agencies such as the FBI and DEA.
