Sherman Thomas, a 43-year-old Cleveland man, was at the center of a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation that brought drugs from the U.S.-Mexico border to Ohio. From July 2022 to April 2023, Thomas and his co-conspirators, including Melvin Hodge and a U.S. postal carrier, conspired to distribute methamphetamine throughout the Northern District of Ohio. Thomas maintained a drug premises on Reyburn Road, where he used an industrial pill press to produce illicit pills.
Thomas’ role in the conspiracy involved receiving methamphetamine from Hodge, who would obtain the drugs from Mexico and send them through the U.S. Postal Service. The postal carrier would provide addresses for safe passage and inform Hodge of the locations where the parcels could be retrieved. Thomas would then store the narcotics at his residence on Father Caruso Drive.
In September 2022, federal agents executed a search warrant at Thomas’ residence, marking the beginning of the end for the meth trafficking operation. After a 4-day trial in June 2025, a federal jury convicted Thomas of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, and other charges.
U.S. District Judge J. Philip Calabrese sentenced Thomas to 275 months (22.9 years) in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. Thomas’ prior convictions, including aggravated robbery and trafficking offenses, likely contributed to the lengthy sentence.
