Crack Cocaine Traffickers Busted in New Orleans
Herbert Cooper, 41, and Richard Williams, 38, both New Orleans residents, are facing serious charges for their alleged involvement in a crack cocaine trafficking operation.
According to a three-count indictment, Cooper and Williams conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute over 28 grams of crack cocaine on October 24, 2014.
Williams was also charged with distributing at least 28 grams of cocaine base, a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B). Cooper was charged with possessing with the intent to distribute at least 28 grams of cocaine base, also a violation of Title 21, United States Code, Sections 841(a)(1) and 841(b)(1)(B).
If convicted, both men face a maximum term of 40 years imprisonment as to each count, a fine of up to $5,000,000, a period of four years of supervised release following any term of imprisonment, and a special assessment of $100.00.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite reminded the public that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendants must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Polite praised the work of the Drug Enforcement Administration, with assistance from the New Orleans Police Department, in investigating this matter. Assistant United States Attorney Brandon S. Long is in charge of the prosecution.
The indictment is a significant blow to the alleged trafficking operation, and law enforcement officials are eager to bring these individuals to justice.
The case is a reminder of the ongoing struggle against the illicit drug trade and the importance of the work being done by law enforcement agencies to combat it.
