San Francisco – Brazil Harris, a Tenderloin neighborhood resident, was today sentenced to three years and four months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute.
Harris pleaded guilty on February 11, 2020, admitting he possessed a loaded Springfield XDS .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol and nearly 300 pills containing methamphetamine. He was stopped by San Francisco Police Department officers for a traffic violation near Golden Gate Avenue and Larkin Street on October 19, 2019.
The 30-year-old Harris had previously been convicted of a felony and was thus prohibited from owning a firearm. The $260 found on him was also seized as evidence.
San Francisco’s Tenderloin district has long struggled with illegal drug dealing, accounting for over half of all drug sales in the city during fiscal year 2017–2018.
The investigation leading to Harris’s conviction was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the San Francisco Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristina Green is handling the prosecution, which is part of the Federal Initiative for the Tenderloin, a multi-agency effort targeting crime in the area.
Judge William H. Alsup sentenced Harris to three years of supervised release after his prison term. Harris has been in custody since February 3, 2020.
