BOSTON – A Brazilian national, Patrick Rodrigues DeOliveira, 25, has been slammed with a federal indictment for his alleged role in the illegal gun trade. The 25-year-old faces serious charges for trafficking firearms and is set to appear in court on July 30th.
DeOliveira, who has been unlawfully residing in the Clinton and Framingham areas of Massachusetts, was charged by a federal grand jury with one count of dealing firearms without a license and one count of conspiracy to engage in the business of dealing in firearms without a license. His alleged criminal activities took place between August and September 2024.
According to the charging documents, DeOliveira is accused of traveling to South Carolina to obtain firearms, which he then intended to sell in Massachusetts. The most recent incident involved selling a shotgun and a pistol for $3,500 outside a Framingham motel on September 10th, 2024.
The severity of the charges against DeOliveira is clear. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000 for each count.
United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and several law enforcement agencies have joined forces to bring this case to light. The Massachusetts State Police, Framingham Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations all played critical roles in the investigation.
The charges against DeOliveira are merely allegations at this stage, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
