Willian Lacerda, Unlawful Reentry, Massachusetts 2018

BOSTON – A shocking case of immigration law breaking has come to light as a Brazilian national has pleaded guilty to unlawfully reentering the United States.

Willian Lacerda, a 32-year-old Brazilian national who formerly resided in Framingham, has pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful reentry of a deported alien.

On February 20, 2018, Lacerda was encountered by law enforcement and determined to be illegally present in the United States. This revelation has sparked outrage in the community.

Lacerda was previously deported on December 16, 2009, making his current situation even more egregious.

U.S. District Court Judge Allison D. Burroughs is set to sentence Lacerda on July 12, 2018. The maximum sentence he faces is 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Suzanne Sullivan Jacobus of Lelling’s Major Crimes Unit. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations is also involved in the case.

U.S. Attorney Andrew E. Lelling and Thomas P. Brophy, Acting Field Office Director, Boston, have announced the guilty plea. Lelling stated, ‘We will continue to work tirelessly to uphold the law and protect our communities from individuals who attempt to evade our immigration laws.’
