Topeka Man Charged in McDonald’s Robbery

A Topeka man is facing federal charges in connection with a robbery at a McDonald’s restaurant in July 2017.

Brendon R. Thompson, 30, of Topeka, Kansas, was indicted on charges of robbery and brandishing a firearm during the commission of a felony.

According to the indictment, Thompson threatened employees with a gun when he robbed the McDonald’s restaurant at 1100 S. Kansas Avenue in Topeka on July 19, 2017.

If convicted, Thompson faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 on the robbery charge, and not less than seven years and a fine of up to $250,000 on the firearm charge.

The investigation was conducted by the Topeka Police Department and the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag prosecuting the case.

Thompson’s case is currently pending in federal court.
