Bank Robbery in Osage City Lands Missouri Man in Hot Water
A brazen bank robbery in Osage City, Kansas, has yielded an arrest and charges for a Missouri man. Hunter Lee Prewitt, 28, of Mountain Grove, Missouri, was taken into custody outside Springfield, Missouri, following an investigation by federal and local authorities.
According to court records, Prewitt allegedly robbed the Landmark National Bank at 106 South 6th Street in Osage City on January 25, 2017. In a chilling display of audacity, Prewitt handed a teller a note demanding cash, stating: ‘This a robbery. Give me all one hundreds, fifties and twenties.’
The investigation, which spanned multiple jurisdictions, used video surveillance photos and a description of Prewitt’s vehicle to track his movements. A 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck registered to Prewitt was identified as the getaway vehicle. Investigators also obtained records of Prewitt’s stop at a gas station in Osage City before the robbery and a pawn shop in Lyndon, Kansas.
The Missouri Highway Patrol used the information to identify Prewitt, who was subsequently arrested. A crime intelligence analyst with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation conducted a search of law enforcement tag readers, providing additional evidence linking Prewitt to the crime.
If convicted, Prewitt faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jared Maag.
In all cases, defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The indictment merely contains allegations of criminal conduct.
The investigating agencies involved in this case include the FBI, the KBI, the Osage County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and the Heart of America Computer Forensics Laboratory.
