Utah Man Pleads Guilty to Distributing Child Pornography
A Utah man, Brent Walter Murie, 67, has admitted to using the instant messaging application Kik to distribute child pornography in Virginia.
Murie pleaded guilty on September 9, 2021, to two counts of distribution of child pornography, each carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison.
As part of his plea agreement, Murie will be required to register as a convicted sex offender upon his release from prison and pay restitution to his victims.
The investigation into Murie’s activities was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was part of an undercover operation by the I-81 Human Trafficking and Crimes Against Children Task Force.
Murie was arrested for his role in distributing child pornography and has since pleaded guilty to the charges against him.
United States Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh praised the efforts of the FBI and the I-81 Human Trafficking and Crimes Against Children Task Force in bringing this case to justice.
Brent Walter Murie, 67, is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes in the coming months.
