A 25-year-old man from West Melbourne, Florida has been arraigned on federal charges related to the online exploitation of a minor. Jonathan Tyler Prive, a resident of West Melbourne, was taken into custody after an indictment was filed against him, alleging one count of online enticement of a minor and one count of attempted online enticement of a minor.
According to the indictment, Prive used a means of interstate commerce to induce and coerce a minor into engaging in illegal sexual activity on two separate occasions: September 9-10, 2013, and November 4-5, 2013. If convicted, Prive faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, up to life in prison.
The case was investigated by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI). Assistant United States Attorney Andrew C. Searle will be prosecuting the case.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The program marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
Prive is presumed innocent until proven guilty. His arraignment marks a significant step in the investigation, and the community can expect further updates as the case unfolds.
