ORLANDO, FL – Joshua Grant Cobb, 33, of Orlando, is staring down the barrel of a potential life sentence after being indicted on serious federal drug and firearm offenses, the Department of Justice announced today. Cobb is accused of running a significant narcotics operation and illegally possessing a weapon while doing so.
According to the indictment unsealed today, Cobb possessed with intent to distribute a substantial quantity of illicit drugs. Specifically, authorities allege Cobb was holding 40 grams or more of a fentanyl mixture and 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on April 30, 2024. The charges don’t just stop at drugs; Cobb is also accused of possessing a firearm directly linked to his alleged drug trafficking activities.
United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg’s office is aggressively pursuing the case, signaling a zero-tolerance stance towards drug dealers who arm themselves. If convicted on both counts – possession with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime – Cobb faces a minimum mandatory penalty of 15 years in federal prison, with the potential for a life sentence. The feds are also moving to seize any firearms and ammunition used in the commission of these alleged crimes.
“This isn’t a slap on the wrist,” a source within the U.S. Attorney’s office told Grimy Times. “We’re talking about deadly drugs flooding the streets and a defendant willing to use a firearm to protect his operation. The message is clear: bring that poison into our communities, and we’ll bring the full weight of federal law down on you.”
The investigation was a collaborative effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, highlighting the importance of interagency cooperation in tackling complex criminal enterprises. Assistant United States Attorney Megan Testerman is leading the prosecution. This case falls under the umbrella of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a DOJ program focused on reducing violent crime and gun violence through community-based partnerships and targeted enforcement.
