Fentanyl Trafficking Lands Southern California Man 13 Years in Prison
BOISE, IDAHO – In a harsh crackdown on the fentanyl trade, a 56-year-old man from Lake Elsinore, California has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison for his role in a fatal overdose.
Brian Arthur Goodale was handed the lengthy sentence by U.S. District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford, who also ordered him to pay restitution to the victim’s family to cover funeral expenses and serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.
The investigation, led by the Boise Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the United States Postal Inspection Service, revealed that Goodale had distributed fentanyl to the victim, who ultimately succumbed to a lethal dose of the synthetic opioid.
A toxicology report and autopsy confirmed that the victim had ingested a lethal dose of fentanyl, and a search of his residence turned up a small drug tube and a piece of tin foil, further evidence of the deadly transaction.
According to court records, Goodale had been in contact with the victim through Facebook, where he sent a message promising to send a package of fentanyl in exchange for $100.
Goodale’s extensive criminal history, including 29 prior convictions in California and 20 of which are controlled substance offenses, only added fuel to the fire as he was already on felony probation for offering a controlled substance for sale in Riverside County, California.
This case is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of the fentanyl trade, as the synthetic opioid is 50-100 times stronger than morphine and has claimed countless lives nationwide.
The majority of fentanyl-related overdoses in the U.S. are linked to Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations, who collaborate with transnational cartels to smuggle illicit fentanyl into the country.
