A disturbing crime has shaken the community in Poplar, Montana, as Brian Douglas Eagle, a 23-year-old resident, admitted to sex abuse charges in federal court on Monday.
According to U.S. Attorney Kurt G. Alme, Eagle attempted to assault the victim while she was taking a shower, leaving her shaken and traumatized.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was taking a shower at her home on February 7, 2018, when Eagle, who was naked, entered the shower and pushed her to a corner. He then had her touch him before letting her get out of the shower.
The victim, feeling threatened and scared, quickly got dressed and ran to another house where she spent the night. The resident of the house contacted law enforcement, and an investigation was launched.
The case was investigated by the FBI and Fort Peck Law Enforcement, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paulette Stewart and Bryan Dake prosecuting the case.
Eagle pleaded guilty to abusive sexual contact, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and five years to life supervised release.
U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris presided over the hearing, and sentencing is set for March 21, 2019. Eagle is currently being detained.
