Brian Keith Bell, 56, of the Pearl River Community of the Choctaw Indian Reservation, has been found guilty of second-degree murder and using a firearm in the commission of the murder. The verdict was handed down on September 10, 2025, following a three-day jury trial in Jackson, MS.
According to court documents, Bell used a handgun to shoot and kill another tribal member. The incident led to a federal grand jury indictment in April 2024, charging Bell with Murder in the Second Degree and the Use of a Firearm in a Crime of Violence.
The trial, presided over by Honorable Daniel P. Jordan, III, United States District Judge, resulted in a guilty verdict for Bell. He faces a maximum penalty of life in prison and is currently being held in federal custody. Sentencing has been scheduled for November 14, 2025.
Acting United States Attorney Patrick A. Lemon and Special Agent in Charge Robert Eikhoff of Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Jackson Office announced the guilty verdict. Lemon commended the work of the Choctaw Police Department of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, who investigated the case.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Kevin J. Payne and Brian K. Burns. Their efforts led to the successful conviction of Bell, bringing justice to the victim and the community.
