Goodlettsville Man Indicted in Heroin Distribution Conspiracy Resulting in Death
Brian Wimsatt, 29, of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, was recently indicted by a federal grand jury and charged with conspiracy, possession, and distribution of heroin, which resulted in death. The indictment was announced by Jack Smith, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee.
According to the indictment, on May 13, 2016, Wimsatt sold heroin to an individual who died shortly after using it. This tragic incident was unfortunately not the first time Wimsatt was involved in heroin distribution. On May 17, 2016, Wimsatt was arrested by law enforcement officers and was again in possession of heroin.
Wimsatt is currently in custody and, if convicted, he faces a mandatory minimum term of twenty years in prison up to life, and up to a $1,000,000 fine.
This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration; the 18th Judicial District Drug Task Force; and the Goodlettsville, Tenn. Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Ahmed A. Safeeullah.
It’s essential to note that an indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case highlights the devastating consequences of heroin distribution and the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat this deadly crime. As our community continues to grapple with the opioid epidemic, it’s crucial that we hold those responsible accountable for their actions.
