Defendant Faces Life Imprisonment and $20M Fine for Methamphetamine Distribution

A Lake County man has been taken into custody on federal charges of distributing methamphetamine, also known as ‘ice.’

Will Jones, a resident of Lake County, was arrested by a team of law enforcement officials in the early morning hours of July 27, 2017, in Lake County, Tennessee.

The arrest was the culmination of a 10-month investigation, during which time authorities seized over a kilo of actual methamphetamine, approximately $148,000 in cash, a loaded handgun, and three vehicles.

Lawrence J. Laurenzi, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, announced the indictment, which was returned by a federal grand jury in Jackson, Tennessee. The indictment contains three counts of distributing actual methamphetamine on July 17, 2017.

Jones faces up to life imprisonment and a fine of $20,000,000 if convicted. The case is being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorneys James Powell and Beth Boswell are prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The charges and allegations in the indictment are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
