WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA – A Bridgeport doctor and ex-mayor have been sentenced to prison for their roles in a painkiller conspiracy. Edita Milan, M.D. and Mario Blount were found guilty of conspiring to distribute prescription painkillers.
Milan, a physician with a medical practice in Bridgeport, was sentenced to 60 months in prison in May 2015. Blount, a licensed pharmacist and former mayor of Bridgeport, was sentenced to 36 months in prison in February 2015.
The Greater Harrison County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, was recognized for its investigative efforts in the cases of United States v. Edita Milan, M.D. and United States v. Mario Blount. The task force’s work helped bring the painkiller conspiracy to light and led to the convictions of Milan and Blount.
The Mountaineer Highway Interdiction Team was also recognized for its investigative efforts in the case of United States v. Shawn McClain. McClain was sentenced to 120 months in prison in March 2015 for his role in a heroin trafficking operation.
Other law enforcement agencies recognized for their work in the Northern District of West Virginia include the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and the West Virginia State Police. These agencies were recognized for their investigative efforts in cases involving prescription drug distribution, heroin trafficking, and healthcare fraud.
The awards ceremony was hosted by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II, and recognized the outstanding contributions of local, state, and federal law enforcement officers to regional law enforcement objectives and prosecutions.
These law enforcement officers and agencies have made significant contributions to keeping our communities safe and holding those who break the law accountable for their actions. Their dedication and hard work are truly appreciated and recognized through these awards.
