Brinks Robber McNair Adds 42 Months for Jailhouse Stabbing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Anthony McNair, 36, of Washington, D.C., has added another substantial prison term to his already lengthy sentence. McNair was sentenced to 42 months today for a vicious jailhouse stabbing that occurred October 11, 2024, at the DC Central Detention Facility. The attack on fellow inmate Tyjuan McNeal, 28, was caught on camera and revealed a brutal, unprovoked assault.

According to court documents, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on the day of the attack, McNair repeatedly stabbed McNeal in the Southwest 2 housing unit with a sharpened object. Surveillance footage shows McNair methodically attacking McNeal, even pulling a shirt over the victim’s head to impede his defense. A correctional officer finally intervened, halting the assault. McNeal sustained multiple stab wounds to his head, neck, shoulder, chest, and palm, requiring immediate hospitalization.

This latest sentence comes on top of a staggering 31.5-year term McNair received on March 26, 2025, for his role in a series of armed robberies of Brinks armored cars in Washington, D.C., between late 2021 and early 2022. Those robberies resulted in the theft of approximately $1.2 million. U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth handed down the harsh sentence after a federal jury found McNair guilty. His co-defendants, William Brock, received 54.7 years, and Erin Sheffey, 18 years, for their involvement in the same crimes.

The Superior Court of the District of Columbia, with The Honorable Judith Pipe presiding, ordered McNair’s 42-month sentence for the assault with a dangerous weapon on July 28, 2025. Crucially, this sentence will run consecutive to his already substantial sentence for the Brinks robberies, meaning McNair will serve this additional time after completing his initial 31.5-year term.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith jointly announced the sentencing, commending the work of investigators from the MPD. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ariel Lieberman prosecuted the case, presenting the damning surveillance footage and evidence of McNair’s calculated brutality. The incident highlights the ongoing challenges of maintaining safety within the DC jail system.

McNair’s history of violent crime, now compounded by an attack committed while already in custody, paints a picture of a dangerous offender. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and report on the ongoing efforts to address crime and violence in the nation’s capital.
