Brittany Brooks, Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments, West Virginia 2023

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA — A 28-year-old Pennsylvania woman admitted in federal court to laundering dirty money through a complex financial web. Brittany Brooks of Randallstown, Pennsylvania, pled guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Launder Monetary Instruments, federal prosecutors confirmed.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of twenty years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000. According to Acting United States Attorney Betsy Steinfeld Jividen, the prosecution successfully proved Brooks played a key role in disguising illicit funds as legitimate transactions.

Brooks appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble, who presided over the hearing in Martinsburg. She did not contest the charges, offering a guilty plea that signals the government’s growing pressure on financial crime networks operating across state lines.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Anna Z. Krasinski, who emphasized the federal government’s commitment to tracking and dismantling money laundering operations. “This isn’t just about moving cash,” Krasinski said in a brief statement. “It’s about shielding illegal profits from law enforcement — and we’re shutting it down.”

Investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative targeting organized criminal activity in the region. Authorities have not disclosed the origin of the funds Brooks allegedly laundered, but sources indicate the probe remains active.

Sentencing will be determined under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, weighing the seriousness of the offense and Brooks’ prior criminal history, if any. A date for sentencing has not yet been scheduled.
