ALBANY, NEW YORK – A former North Country postal clerk has been sentenced for stealing prescription drugs from mail parcels.
Brittany Irvine, age 27, formerly of Bloomingdale, New York, was sentenced today to 12 months of probation and to pay a fine of $5,000 for stealing prescription drugs from mail parcels.
The crime occurred between June 18, 2019, and August 27, 2019, where Irvine, while working as a Distribution Clerk at the United States Post Office in Bloomingdale, removed oxycodone pills from three parcels.
Irvine previously admitted to the crime, and her actions were investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Troy Anderson.
United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Matthew Modafferi, Special Agent in Charge of the Northeast Area for the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General, made the announcement.
The prescription drugs stolen by Irvine were valued at an unspecified amount. Her fine of $5,000 is in addition to her 12-month probationary sentence.
This case highlights the importance of postal workers maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of mail parcels.
