A Troy man has been sentenced to 36 months in prison for his role in a heroin trafficking operation.
According to court documents, Jean Luis Colon, age 23, was found to possess approximately 2,050 small bags of heroin that he intended to sell. The bags were seized during a search of his Troy residence on August 21, 2020.
Some of the heroin bags were stamped with the words ‘Corona Virus.’ The bags collectively contained between 60 and 80 grams of heroin.
Colon was also found to possess a .38 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver with a scratched serial number.
Colon has been in custody since his arrest on August 21, 2020. The prosecution was the result of a joint investigation by the DEA, Troy Police Department, and the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit.
The sentencing was announced by Acting United States Attorney Antoinette T. Bacon and Ray Donovan, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), New York Field Division.
Colon will serve 36 months in prison, followed by 3 years of supervised release. This conviction is a result of a joint investigation and prosecution by the DEA, Troy Police Department, and the New York State Police Special Investigations Unit.
Colon’s possession and intention to distribute heroin, and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, have led to his conviction and sentencing.
