Today’s courthouse in Brooklyn witnessed a stark arraignment as Tony Terry, a 35-year-old from Brooklyn, faced four-count charges of conspiracy to traffic firearms. The grim allegations against Terry, who is accused of smuggling weapons from Georgia to his home turf, have hit the streets of East New York with a heavy hand.
The United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, Breon Peace, Special Agent-in-Charge Bryan Miller of the ATF, and NYPD Commissioner Edward A. Caban stood united in announcing Terry’s arrest and charges. ‘The defendant brought deadly weapons from Georgia to Brooklyn streets,’ stated Attorney Peace, underscoring the relentless pursuit of illegal guns known as the Iron Pipeline.
‘Disrupting firearms trafficking schemes is a top priority for us,’ Miller emphasized, thanking colleagues for their dedication. NYPD Commissioner Caban echoed sentiments of commitment, praising the efforts of investigators and law enforcement partners in this case.
According to court documents, Terry traveled to Savannah, Georgia, on November 22 and November 28, 2022, to purchase firearms with the aid of straw purchasers from licensed dealers. He then sold two guns back in Brooklyn. On December 6, 2022, he dealt a Taurus 9mm G2e handgun to an undercover NYPD officer. His associates, Jose Marrero and Jacqueline Christmas, have also been charged for their roles in this illegal gun ring.
Marrero pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in prison, while Christmas awaits sentencing after her guilty plea. Assistant United States Attorney Raffaela S. Belizaire is leading the prosecution of Terry, who remains presumed innocent until proven guilty. His E.D.N.Y. Docket No. is 24-CR-244 (CBA).
