Brooksville Mom Pleads Guilty to Lying to Feds in Teen’s Death Case

United States Attorney Roger B. Handberg has dropped the hammer on Janet Williams, a 44-year-old Brooksville resident, after she pleaded guilty to three counts of making false statements to federal agents in connection with a teenage murder.

The grim tale begins with Williams’s son, Sheldon Robinson, who was arrested for the murder of I.S., a 17-year-old student at Hernando County High School. Court documents reveal that on February 8, 2023, Williams unearthed approximately $6,000 from Robinson’s hiding spots in her home, money he had been given to commit the crime.

Williams continued her web of lies when she was grilled by ATF agents and Hernando County Sheriff’s Office detectives on August 9, 2023. Despite the cash being discovered in her home, Williams repeatedly denied knowing anything about it.

The deception didn’t end there. During a call with Robinson on August 17, Williams spilled the beans to him about the ATF’s visit, stating, “Feds came to the house. They took over the case,” and later admitted that she told the agents she never saw money or a firearm in connection with her son.

Williams’s story unraveled when federal agents executed a search warrant at her residence on September 20, 2023. They found not only evidence of Robinson’s criminal activities but also numerous photos of him with firearms, including in his mother’s home.

Sheldon Robinson is currently facing trial for his alleged role in the teenager’s murder. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office and the ATF led the investigation with significant support from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the State Attorney’s Office (Fifth Judicial Circuit). Assistant United States Attorney Diego F. Novaes is prosecuting this case, which will undoubtedly shake the community to its core.
