ERIE, Pa. – A disturbing case of child exploitation has come to light in Erie, Pennsylvania, as 61-year-old Bruce Johnson was sentenced to 60 months in prison for possessing child pornography.
According to information presented to the court, Johnson was found to have computer images and movies depicting minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Acting United States Attorney Soo C. Song announced the sentencing, commending the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Pennsylvania State Police for their investigation into the case.
Assistant United States Attorney Christian A. Trabold prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, bringing it to a successful conclusion under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
Johnson’s sentence of 60 months in prison is accompanied by 7 years of supervised release, a harsh punishment for a crime that has left a deep impact on the community.
The case highlights the importance of initiatives like Project Safe Childhood, which marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who sexually exploit children, and to identify and rescue victims.
