Convicted Sex Offender Fled State with Minor Daughters

A federal jury in Alabama has convicted a 56-year-old man of multiple charges related to child sex trafficking and child pornography. Bruce Nicholson, a resident of Chilton County, Alabama, was found guilty of producing, transporting, and possessing child pornography, as well as transporting two minor girls with the intent to engage in unlawful sexual activity with them.

The evidence presented at trial revealed that Nicholson had been sexually abusing his minor daughter and stepdaughter for years. In 2012, after impregnating his stepdaughter with twins, Nicholson fled the state of Alabama with both girls. He was apprehended in another state more than a month later.

Nicholson was indicted in 2016 on Mann Act and child pornography charges. Forensic examination of his devices revealed images of child pornography, including one image he had directed his stepdaughter to produce and send him.

U.S. Attorney Jay E. Town praised the jury’s verdict, stating, ‘This man stole the innocence of two girls and a large part of their childhoods, and he had every intention of stealing the rest.’ Town added, ‘This guilty verdict cannot take away the pain those girls have experienced, but it sends a message loud and clear to this defendant and every other sexual abuser.’

FBI Special Agent in Charge Johnnie Sharp Jr. also commended the investigation, saying, ‘Taking away the innocence of a child is deplorable and inexcusable.’ Sharp continued, ‘I am proud of the work done by my agents and our partners to hold Nicholson accountable for these crimes.’

Nicholson’s sentencing date has not been set. Assistant U.S. Attorneys J.B. Ward and Don Long are prosecuting the case, which was investigated by the FBI.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child sex trafficking and child pornography on victims and their families. It also highlights the importance of continued efforts to investigate and prosecute these heinous crimes.
